About London Marble Arch
Marble Arch is a locality in west London, and it is, perhaps, best known for being home to the Marble Arch monument, which stands, today, as an entrance to Hyde Park. The monument was designed by John Nash, in 1828, and was based on Rome's Arch of Constantine, being originally intended to be entrance to the Buckingham Palace, the official residence of Her Majesty The Queen.
The monument was considered to be too narrow for the grandest coaches, and therefore, was moved to its present location, becoming the gateway to Hyde Park, marking the western extent of Oxford Street. Although, today, it is open to pedestrians, by tradition, only senior members of the Royal Family and one of the artillery regiments are allowed to pass beneath it.
The arch stands close to the site of the Tyburn gallows, a place of public execution from 1388 until 1793, the area that surrounds it, or better said, the entire beautiful city of London, being filled with such historical attractions, the "list" including many other appealing attractions, London being considered one of the world's most identifiable and emblematic cities, being often remembered and referred to as the city of Big Ben, double-decker buses, the Queen and the Tube.
